Balzers has been part of Liechtenstein ever since. In the 19th century, the area experienced a period of rapid growth, thanks to the construction of a road connecting Balzers to the capital, Vaduz. This road, along with the construction of a railway line in 1873, made Balzers a major transport hub for the region.
