Milan, the capital of the Lombardy region in northern Italy, is one of the oldest cities in Europe. During this period, Milan was a major center of the Counter-Reformation, and was the site of the Council of Trent in 1545. In 1713, Milan was taken over by the Austrian Habsburgs, who ruled the city until the end of the 18th century.
In the 19th century, Milan became an important industrial center, with the development of the textile industry and the production of luxury goods. The city was also the birthplace of the Italian Risorgimento, or “resurgence”, which led to the unification of Italy in 1861.
Today, Milan is one of the leading cities in Italy, and is a major tourist destination. The city is home to some of the world’s most famous attractions, such as the Duomo di Milano, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and the Castello Sforzesco. Milan is also one of the world’s fashion capitals, and is home to many of the world’s top fashion designers.
