The History of Hyesan, North Korea



Hyesan, North Korea is a city located in Ryanggang Province, in the northern part of the country. It lies on the banks of the Yalu River, near the China-North Korea border. The city has a long and fascinating history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Paleolithic period.

In the 4th century BC, the area was part of the ancient kingdom of Gojoseon. Gojoseon was the first Korean kingdom and is believed to have been founded by the legendary Dangun in 2333 BC. The kingdom of Gojoseon was eventually conquered by the Han dynasty in 108 BC, and the area became part of the Chinese Empire.

In the 7th century AD, the area was part of the kingdom of Goguryeo, which was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. Goguryeo was a powerful kingdom that controlled much of the Korean peninsula and parts of Manchuria. In 668 AD, Goguryeo was conquered by the Silla dynasty.

In the 9th century, the area was part of the kingdom of Balhae, which was founded by the Goguryeo people. Balhae controlled much of Manchuria and the northern part of the Korean peninsula. In 926 AD, Balhae was conquered by the Khitan people, who established the Liao dynasty.

In the 13th century, the area was part of the Mongol Empire. The Mongols conquered much of Eurasia, including the Korean peninsula. In the late 14th century, the area was part of the Joseon dynasty, which was founded by the Korean General Yi Seong-gye in 1392.

In the 19th century, the area was part of the Chinese Empire. In 1895, the area was annexed by Japan during the First Sino-Japanese War. During the Japanese occupation, the area was part of the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo.

In 1945, the area was liberated by the Soviet Union. In 1948, the area became part of the newly established North Korea. In the 1950s, Hyesan became an important industrial city, producing coal, chemicals, and textiles.

Today, Hyesan is a modern city with a population of around 200,000. The city is home to several universities and colleges, and is an important center for trade and commerce. The city is also a popular tourist destination, with many historical sites and natural attractions.
