Nelspruit has a long and fascinating history that dates back to the early 19th century. The area was first inhabited by the Tsonga people, who lived in the area for centuries before the arrival of European settlers. The Tsonga people were nomadic hunters and gatherers, and they were the first people to inhabit the region.

In 1839, the Voortrekkers arrived in the area and established the town of Nelspruit. They named the town after the Voortrekker leader Piet Retief's son, Nel. The Voortrekkers were Dutch settlers who left the Cape Colony in search of a new home in the interior. They were the first Europeans to settle in the area, and they brought with them their own culture and language.

The Voortrekkers were soon followed by other European settlers, including the British and the Germans. The British established the town of Barberton in the area in 1884, and the Germans established the town of Kaapmuiden in 1895. Both of these towns are still in existence today.

The town of Nelspruit grew rapidly throughout the early 20th century, and by the 1930s, it had become an important regional centre. It was also an important centre for the African National Congress (ANC) during the struggle for freedom and democracy in South Africa.

In 1994, South Africa held its first democratic election, and Nelspruit played an important role in this historic event. The city was the site of the first ANC rally in the province, and it was also the site of the first free and fair election held in the country.

Today, Nelspruit is a vibrant and thriving city. It is home to many different cultures and is an important centre for trade and commerce in the region. The city is also known for its beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife, making it an ideal destination for tourists.
